The Ombudsman Institute in Uzbekistan is a guarantor of justice and legality

Uzbekistan was the first among the CIS countries to establish the institution of the Ombudsman in February 1995.

The main idea of creating the institution of the Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman) is to promote compliance in society with the principle of the rule of law, protection by the law of personal, political, economic, social and cultural rights of citizens, including their voting rights.

At the eighth session of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on April 24, 1997, the law “On the Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman)” was adopted, according to which the Ombudsman exercises his powers independently of government bodies and officials and is accountable to the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

It should be noted that this law was also adopted among the first among the CIS countries. Many states used the Uzbek model when creating their Ombudsman institution.
