Since the Industrial Revolution, a linear economic model based on the principle of “extraction - production - disposal” has dominated in many countries. However, the growing shortage of raw materials and energy resources, fluctuations in prices on commodity markets, environmental pollution, the growth of areas occupied by industrial waste, and massive emissions of greenhouse gases have pushed society and business to rethink the traditional economic model. The concept of a circular economy based on the “extraction-production-reuse” chain is attracting more and more attention. According to this principle, resources are used longer and waste is minimized.
