In the modern world, the leading place in the system of legal mechanisms for the protection of human rights and freedoms belongs to national human rights institutions. In global human rights practice, there is a wide variety of national institutions for the promotion and protection of human rights, but the beginning of the process of international cooperation should be considered the adoption in Paris in 1991 of the “Principles relating to the status of national human rights institutions,” which were subsequently approved by the UN General Assembly in 1993 .
