Uzbekistan-UN: cooperation for universal sustainable development

The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, will participate in the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 19, 2023, according to a report by "Dunyo" AA correspondent.

Uzbekistan joined the United Nations as a sovereign state on March 2, 1992. Since then, it has collaborated extensively with the UN and its specialized agencies in multiple domains.

The main priorities in Afghanistan include combatting modern dangers and threats, promoting peace, restoring the country, preventing the spread of weapons of mass destruction, addressing environmental concerns like the Aral Sea crisis, supporting socio-economic development, protecting human rights, and promoting tourism and other forms of cooperation.

In recent years, Uzbekistan has been actively involved in the UN General Assembly and specialized organizations, according to experts. The country's leader delivered speeches during the 72nd, 75th, and 76th sessions of the UN General Assembly, as well as at the High-level segment of the 46th session of the UN Human Rights Council. Additionally, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres visited Uzbekistan in June 2017 and had discussions with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The leader of Uzbekistan participated in meetings with the Secretary General of the United Nations during the 2nd International Forum "One Place, One Road" in New York (USA) in September 2017 and Beijing (China) in April 2019. These meetings led to the adoption and implementation of practical measures to enhance cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United Nations.

It is no exaggeration to say that the participation of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in the general discussions at the 72nd session of the General Assembly in September 2017 started a new stage of effective and mutually beneficial cooperation between our country and the UN. During this event, several important international initiatives were put forward, which have been successfully implemented over the past three years.
From the podium of the UN, the leader of Uzbekistan put forward several important international initiatives on current issues of the global and regional agenda. In particular, at the initiative of the leadership of Uzbekistan, six resolutions were developed and adopted within the framework of the UN General Assembly. "Strengthening regional and international cooperation to ensure peace, stability and consistent development in the Central Asian region" (June 2018), "Enlightenment and religious tolerance" (December 2018), "Sustainable tourism in Central Asia and sustainable development" (December 2019), "On the declaration of the Aral Bay region as a region of ecological innovations and technologies" (May 2021), "On the interconnection between Central and South Asia on strengthening" (July 2022), "On strengthening the role of parliaments in accelerating the achievement of sustainable development goals" (December 2022) are among them...
