Samarkand Spirit: A New Format of International Cooperation

On September 15-16, a Summit of the Heads of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states was held in Samarkand, which became a platform for discussing the state and prospects for the development of cooperation in the SCO's sought-after areas and areas of activity. The summit was the first face-to-face meeting of the SCO leaders since 2019.

Open gates of new Uzbekistan

Recently, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in the city of Jeddah as part of a state visit to Saudi Arabia. During the meetings of the heads of both countries, issues of further expansion of mutually beneficial ties in the political, trade, economic, tourism, investment, cultural and humanitarian spheres were discussed. One of the important steps in this direction was the introduction of a visa-free regime, for a period of 30 days, entry into Uzbekistan for citizens of Saudi Arabia.

On 15-16 September Samarkand held a very important event - summit of SCO Heads of State. It was different from previous ones due to its extensive program, comprehensive agenda, as well as broad representation of states, international and regional organizations. Leaders and senior representatives of about 20 states and heads of more than 10 international and regional organizations took part in the event.


On the issue of the SCO activities improvement

During the 21 years of its existence, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has successfully gone through the process of institutional building and formation of mechanisms of multilateral cooperation in priority areas. At the same time, the Organization   approaches the Samarkand summit with a clear demand for reform and improvement.


On the forthcoming SCO summit

The 22nd summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization will be held on September 15-16 this year in Samarkand, and will be the largest diplomatic event of the year in Uzbekistan and the Central Asian region. The heads of states and governments of all eight SCO members, three observer states, leaders of invited countries and 10 international organizations are expected to take part in the summit.

Active and pragmatic foreign policy, pursued under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, strengthens the role and authority of the country not only in the region, but also on a global scale, and increases its influence on the international process.
